Uppsala at Home – A Neighbourhood Archive

This Data Lifeboat was created by Ulf Bodin on 7 December 2025.

Why are you making this particular Data Lifeboat?
This archive is my documentation of my immediate surroundings — almost twenty years of living in a city that is growing and transforming from a small town into a modern centre. Many of the places depicted here have already disappeared (or changed), and the photos preserve what once existed. All images were taken in my immediate surroundings — often just a few hundred meters from my home — during everyday walks and bike rides in and around Uppsala. Each photo is geocoded.

What's important to you about these photos?
This archive is my attempt to inspire an appreciation for local photography. You don’t need to wait for a special trip or dramatic event to start taking pictures. Meaningful subjects often live just around the corner, woven into the rhythm of the everyday. All you need is open eyes, a camera at hand, and the willingness to take advantage of light and weather when they offer you something magical. Through these photos, I want to reveal and preserve the beauty of the place where I live — areas many might see as nothing more than an ordinary boring suburb.

What is it for?
This Data Lifeboat was built for personal, educational, archiving and machine learning use.
